One of the preliminary activities of the project is to conduct a situational analysis to give a structured description of brucellosis control activities, diagnostic capacity, veterinary & public health services, regulatory framework and available prevalence data in all 15 countries.
Information is being gathered from published and grey literature from the region. Through the EISMV network questionnaires were distributed to those institutions attending the workshop in Dakar. Participants at the workshop contributed their knowledge and perception of the brucellosis situation in their countries during discussion groups.
Once all gathered data is compiled and analysed a full presentation of findings will be available.
This work will allow knowledge gaps and barriers to effective control to be identified. This will guide the next stages of the project and highlight areas where further research is required.
